Chitchat with Sawariya couple (Ranbir Kapoor & Sonam Kapoor)

Ranbir Kapoor (son of Rishi Kapoor) and Sonam Kapoor (daughter of Anil Kapoor) are in town to promote their debut vehicle ‘Sawariya’ directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. International movie producer Sony-Columbia-Tristar is venturing in Indian films for the first time by co-producing it. Sawariya is slated for the worldwide release on 9 November. Here are the excepts from chitchat with them -

What are the advantages of having filmy background?
Sonam Kapoor: If I were not the daughter of Anil Kapoor, I would not have got this opportunity. It would have been very difficult.

Ranbir Kapoor: It is written for us. I would have been difficult if I were not from Kapoor family. But there are disadvantages too. The expectations are huge on us. The old adage - Rise is higher, fall is harder - applies to us.

Did you undergo any professional training?
Sonam Kapoor: I had been working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the past four years in the direction department. Working with SLB is like going to college and learning things.

Ranbir Kapoor: I did an acting course in a film school, New York. But what I learnt from Sanjay Leela Bhansali while working for him is much more valuable than I what I learnt at film school.

Why did you choose Sanjay Leela Bhansali for your first film?
Sonam Kapoor: I did not choose him. He chose me. He is my favorite director and the best filmmaker in the entire India. I never expected him to pick me up as heroine for this film.

Is acting there in your genes?
Sonam Kapoor: I could say that Ranbir inherited lot of acting from his parents Rishi and Neetu.
Ranbir Kapoor: Sonam inherited dedication and passion for cinema from her father Anil Kapoor.

Did you get any privileged treatment because of your filmy background?
Sonam Kapoor: People in the sets are nonchalant about our filmy background. And we never expected any special privileges.

Shall Anil Kapoor stop romancing on screen because you became a heroine?
Sonam Kapoor: No. Both of us are individuals and are free to choose the right characters for us.

How did you manage to shed your weight?
Sonam Kapoor: I could not believe it when Sanjay Leela Bhansali asked me to act in this film. I took the assistance of two experts from Hyderabad - Shervir and his wife. They made me lose all my weight.

Did you enjoy dances in this film?
Ranbir Kapoor: I struggled with my dances. But it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali who made my dances appear good on screen.

What is the story of Sawariya?
Sonam Kapoor: Sawariya is a simple and beautiful love story. It is about two souls consumed by love.

Were you nervous while doing this film?
Sonam Kapoor: when I asked the same question to Rishi Kapoor about Bobby, he said that he was not nervous. But very anxious and excited. The same applies to me.

Ranbir Kapoor: Yes, I was nervous.

You look good onscreen together? What is the secret?
Sonam Kapoor: We are good friends even before we signed up for this film. When you are good friends it shows on screen.

What kind of roles will you be doing in future? Are you up for exposing?
Sonam Kapoor: My family left the decision of choosing roles to me. I never stoop to the level of vulgarity. My parents trust me and they feel that I have good judgment. I would like to do both different films and typical glamorous roles.

Will you act in Telugu?
Sonam Kapoor: Yes. I am open for it. My father started his career in south films. I have high regard for the south films and south Indian directors.

Tell us about your aunt Sridevi Kapoor?
She is a legend. She is like my second mom. She did films like Sadma and Chal Baaz at the same time. That shows the kind of variety she offers. She balanced her career with commercial and critically acclaimed films. She is my god!

Press Note: Yama Donga 50days Gala in USA

Yama Donga has completed 50 days and the occasion was celebrated with lot of fanfare in Dallas, USA on October 6th, Saturday evening. Touring Talkies ( Hollywood Theaters), US distributor Raman Sanchula, and local NTR fans have arranged festivities like never before. On Saturday morning at 11:30 am, Ananda Lahari ( Popular telugu radio program on Radio Salaam Namaste 104.9 FM) has done a 50 days special on Yama Donga. NTR and Rajamouli came live on the program and shared the emotions with Dallas people. All the Radio station phone lines were jammed with calls during the program.

To celebrate the first 50 days continuous run for NTR overseas, a special show is scheduled for all the fans at 9:30 pm. About 320 people attended the show. The festivities started at 8:30 pm. The whole event was vibrant and colorful with NTR fans, kids, families, balloons, 50 days cake, whistles, specially decorated RV for Yama Donga, Yama Donga songs in background, Champagne. and photoflashes. About 200 TANTEX ( Telugu Association of North Texas) members who had a special screening of Yama Donga at 6 PM have also joined the celebrations. While Happy Days was going house full on the next screen, over 500 people have watched and enjoyed Yama Donga on Saturday celebrating 50 days.

It was a party time in Dallas for all Yama Donga fans!!

Box Office: Happy Days For Small Budget Films

1. Happy Days:
The film is ruling the roost in all the theaters with houseful collections. The positive talk came for the film forced for releasing many more prints. Sekhar Kammula's magic worked really well and the film is making huge profits at the box office. It is made with low budget and ending up with big profits. That's the right side of business mineralized by Kammula. The film has all new actors and Micckie J Mayor's music pumped in spirits for the film. The film sits in position-1 in the toppers' list of the week.

2. Chirutha:
The film is doing considerably good business in many centers and in some centers the collections are not full. People are coming to watch Ram Charan and they are going homes happily. Had the story of the film made some sense, then the film would have been on top, say many. The film sits in position2 of the toppers' list of the week. Neha paired up with Ram Charan in the film.

3. Chandamama:
The film is really enjoying better collections even after these many days of release. The only reason for that is bearing the uniqueness. The film is targeted on family audiences and they are happy for full length comedy minus violence and bloodshed. Krishna Vamshi directed the film where Navadeep, Kajol, Sindhu Menon and Siva Balaji played main roles. Ahuti Prasad got very good recognition for this film. The film sits in position-3 of the toppers' list of the week.

4. Bhayya:
The film is a dubbed version from Tamil. Originally it is 'Malaikottai' in Tamil. Vishal and Priyamani played lead roles in it. The film is on beaten track with same style of story that Vishal acted in his previous films. The film brought boredom for general audience and Vishal's fights thrilled mass audiences as usually. Bhoopaty Pandian directed the film and it sits in positipn-4 of the topers' list of the week.

5. Yama Donga
The film is still making collections but not in satisfactory mode. There is a drop observed after the completion of 50 days but still sustaining with considerable audience everyday. Yama concept in the film brought novelty after a very long time and the combination of Rajamaouli, Mohan Babu and NTR turned the heads of many. The film sits in position-5 of the toppers' list of the week.

Reel Talk: Ramya Is Very 'Guddu Girlu'!

Ramya Sree is the actress known for playing vamp roles and she is meant only for glamour show. She turned popular with the film 'Nuvvu Nenu' of Teja. She portrayed the role of lecturer in that film.

In a fresh TV interview with her, she said, "I have many fans. They all say that certain role can be done only by me and none else. That recognition is enough for me. I want to tell you one thing. I acted as main heroine in the Kannada film 'Aryabhatta'. Soundarya played second heroine in that. Ramesh Aravind was the hero. The film turned a hit because of me. I like two directors. One is Teja and the other is Srinivasa Reddy. Srinivas Reddy garu gave me good role in 'Yamagola Mallee Modalayyindi'. I'm very much thankful for him".

Why Ramya Sree said about her in comparison to Soundarya out of the blue? Is she suffering from inferiority complex? Ramya Sree came to industry to become heroine. But she ended up as a glamorous character artiste.

Coming to a funny side of her English, when asked how she will be off the screen, she said, " I'm a very guddu (good) girlu (girl)". That's her diction in English!!!!!!!!!

Screen Talk: NTR Inspired Hansika!

NTR has undergone bariatric treatment and reduces 26.5 kgs surprisingly. He is now looking stunningly slim and about to hit the floors for the film 'Kantree'. Desamuduru fame Hansika is pairing up with him. This sexy doll also reduced her weight and looking very slim.

So, we will have Mr Slim and Miss Slim on screen for 'Kantree'. Hansika must have got inspired by NTR in this matter. We may see a right match in this film.

Hansika, although looked little plump in 'Desa Muduru', she looted the hearts of many teenagers. She was even pleasing for the eyes of several audiences. Now we have to see how she enthralls with her slimmed figure.

First Philadelphia Bathukamma Festival

First Philadelphia Bathukamma Festival Celebrated in King Of Prussia on October 6th at Valley Creek Park

Philadelphia Telangana NRIs under the banner of Telangana Cultural Association (TCA) celebrated the Bathukamma festival with great jubilation and joy at Valley Creek Park in Malvern. The scenic view of the Valley Creek park and the quietly flowing creek was a perfect setting and it reminded the Telangana villages. It also turned out to be a perfect day - sunny and warm. About 50 people from all over Philadelphia & suburbs participated in the celebrations. Women wore traditional and colorful clothes and brought beautifully decorated bathukammas.

As families started arriving, we started the celebrations with telangana cultural music. The program started with the introductions of all the participants. Lunch was served with different Saddulu, five different rice dishes and various authentic Telangana cuisine brought by the participants.

There were about 10 beautifully decorated Bathukammas and the traditional ceremony started with the Gowri pooja. Later all the ladies formed a big a circle and went around the Bathukkmmas clapping and singing "Bathukkamma Bathukamma Uyyalo Bangaru Bathukamma Uyyalo" . It was a visual treat to see ladies and girls clad in colorful sarees, stepping around rhythmically. Many felt nostalgic about the whole thing; it brought back their childhood memories. Later Bathukammas were immersed in the creek.

There were games for the kids and adults including the best Bathukamma competition. Adults and kids played musical chairs. Men's "musical chairs" was the highlight of the event. Meghana & Venu Bathini family, Neeraja & Sudheer Raju, Manjula & Nagender, Madhavi & Jayander, Soundarya & Ravi and Jamuna & Ravinder Puskur, won the best Bathukamma prizes.

Swamy Savithananda was a special guest for the event. He addressed the gathering and explained about importance meditation and yoga. Some other notable people attended the ceremony included Dr. Jayander, Dr Raghava Reddy, Dr Vijaya Bhaskar.

Chiranjeevi Cannot Be Compared With NTR

I Venkata Rao is the senior journalist who said that Chirajeevi should not be compared with NTR.

He said, "There should be a very perfect and clear motive for entering into politics. NTR had very perfect motive those days. He had very deep insight into various problems in society. Chiranjeevi cannot be compared with NTR now. People should know if he has proper insight on the aspects of burning issues like Telangana problem, Nuclear Deal and possibility of preparing an agenda that sounds better than that of TDP's and Congress'. Only then there will be any sense. Why Chiranjeevi is wishing to enter politics? Is that only because he has cine glamour? If he is planning to enter seeing that if the atmosphere is right to become CM, he will be a failure. If he has clear motive to serve people through politics irrespective of he becoming CM or not, only then the things will make sense".

So we have to see what Chiranjeevi will do and what his people make him do.

Suhasini: 'Chiranjeevi Was Egoistic'

Suhasini says that Chiranjeevi was egoistic. Let us read in her own expression:

"We see many artistes those look humble, modest and patient when they enter the industry. But as they grow up they develop ego and pride. But Chiranjeevi is someone different. He used to have ego in his eyes and confidence in his moves when he entered films. I still remember that. But as he started growing he became humble day by day. He is cool and modest now. That's the specialty in him".

Well, Suhasini has also got a specialty in saying something new about new someone!!!
